SnapOut Terms and Privacy Policy
Effective: 2026-05-23 · Version: v1.1 · Chinese: 简体中文
SnapOut is a screenshot and temporary-image organizer. By design we collect as little as possible and keep decisions in your hands. This policy describes what we collect, what we never collect, how we handle it, and the controls you have.
1. Our data stance
- Default Mode (free): all recognition and classification happens on your device. The default scope is screenshots only; if you opt in, SnapOut can also include saved/downloaded temporary images. Screenshots and temporary images never leave the device in the default flow.
- Smart Mode (SnapOut Pro subscription or credit packs, opt-in): to complete a single classification, a compressed image copy from the current confirmed scan scope is uploaded to the SnapOut cloud service, used only for that request, and not retained long term, not used for training, not sold, and not shared with advertising networks.
- We never delete your photos automatically. Any deletion requires confirmation by you in the app, then again by the iOS Photos system.
- Camera photos are skipped locally. To decide whether a candidate is a camera photo, the app may read necessary image metadata / EXIF on device. That metadata is not uploaded, not included in exports, and not used for advertising tracking.
2. What we collect
| Category | Collected | Purpose | Linked to identity | Used for tracking |
| Screenshot image (compressed copy) | Smart Mode only | Single screenshot classification request through the SnapOut cloud service | No | No |
| Saved/downloaded temporary images | Local only | When you opt into Temporary Images, used for local OCR, classification, search, and deletion confirmation | No | No |
| Image metadata / EXIF | Local only | Determine whether a candidate is a camera photo; camera photos are then skipped before OCR, classification, upload, or default export | No | No |
| OCR text | Local only | On-device search; never uploaded | No | No |
| Asset ID hash (FNV-1a) | Smart Mode only | Request deduplication, billing reconciliation | No (irreversible) | No |
| User-submitted classification corrections (opt-in feedback) | Only when a Smart Mode user actively submits feedback | Evaluate classification quality and improve rules; contains asset ID hash + predicted category + your corrected category; does not include the original screenshot or OCR text | No | No |
| Device identifier (device_id) | Smart Mode only | Replay prevention and credit accounting; randomly generated UUID at install, not tied to IDFA | No | No |
| App Attest public-key digest | Smart Mode only | Verify the request originates from a legitimate app instance | No | No |
| Apple StoreKit purchase info (subscription and credit pack transaction id) | Purchasers only | Verify Pro subscription, redeem credit packs, and prevent duplicate grants | Yes (tied to Apple purchase records) | No |
| Classification result JSON (purpose, category, cleanup hint) | No (returned to device only) | — | — | — |
| Location, contacts, health, financial info, browsing history, IDFA | Never | — | — | — |
| Server request logs | Smart Mode only | Operations and billing audit; contains timestamp, status code, AI service tag, device_id, asset id hash. Does not contain image bytes, OCR text, or classification content. | No | No |
3. Data retention
| Item | Retention |
| Uploaded image copy | Temporarily used only to process the current Smart Mode request; never written to disk; released when the request ends |
| AI classification JSON | Returned to the device verbatim; not persisted server-side |
| Purchase status cache (transaction id → status) | Up to 24 hours; invalidated on Apple Server Notifications |
| Server request logs | 30 days, then auto-deleted |
| Device binding (device_id → App Attest key digest) | Up to 30 days after Smart Mode authorization expires |
| User-submitted classification feedback | Original records auto-deleted after 90 days; only aggregate statistics retained beyond that |
4. Third-party sharing
4.1 Apple
Subscriptions, credit pack purchases, refunds, and Family Sharing are handled by Apple StoreKit and the App Store Server under Apple's terms; see Apple Privacy Policy. Device attestation uses Apple's DeviceCheck App Attest service.
4.2 Third-party AI inference infrastructure
In Smart Mode, compressed image copies are processed through the SnapOut cloud service and necessary third-party AI inference infrastructure based on device region, used only for the current classification request and not retained afterwards:
- Devices in mainland China: processed primarily through nodes in mainland China to avoid cross-border transfer.
- Devices elsewhere: processed through out-of-region nodes; data stays in the corresponding service region and is released after the request completes.
The AI inference request contains only the image copy and necessary context for the current classification; we do not send Apple ID, subscription management information, contacts, location, or data unrelated to this classification.
We may adjust the specific infrastructure or model version based on stability, compliance requirements, and service quality, but such changes will not expand the data uses described in this policy.
4.3 What we never share
- We do not sell or share data with advertising networks, data brokers, or marketing services.
- We do not integrate third-party analytics SDKs (no Firebase, no Adjust, no Baidu Statistics, etc.).
- We do not use data to train any model.
5. Cross-border data transfer
In Smart Mode, data flow is determined by device region:
- Devices in the mainland China App Store storefront: processed primarily through nodes in mainland China; no cross-border transfer.
- Devices in other regions: processed through out-of-region nodes; data stays in the corresponding service region and is released after the request completes.
6. Your rights
- Access and export: in Default Mode, all data lives on your device and is visible in iOS Photos and within the app. Exports may include an origin label (screenshot / temporary image), but do not include EXIF or raw image metadata.
- Delete server-side data: contact us at the email below to delete server-side bindings and deletable logs tied to your device_id. Subscription state, refunds, and App Store purchase records are held by Apple. credit purchase ledgers may need to be retained for fulfillment, fraud prevention, and duplicate-grant prevention.
- Turn off Smart Mode: toggle off in app settings; uploads stop immediately.
- Cancel subscription: via iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
7. Children's privacy
SnapOut is not designed for or directed to children under 13 (or under 14 in mainland China). We do not knowingly collect data from users in those age ranges. If we become aware of such data, we will delete it.
8. Data security
- All client-to-server traffic uses TLS 1.2+.
- Requests must pass Apple App Attest device verification, short-lived JWT authentication, and anti-replay signing (nonce + timestamp) before reaching the classification pipeline.
- The server does not store raw screenshots, temporary images, OCR text, or classification content; see section 3.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above, and notify you in-app if the change affects data use or sharing.
10. Disclaimers and Terms of Use
This section sets out the legal terms for using SnapOut. By downloading, installing, or using this app, you accept the terms in this section. If you do not agree, please do not use the app and uninstall it.
10.1 Service "as-is"
The service is provided on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, completeness, or uninterrupted operation.
10.2 Classification results are advisory only
The app's classification of your screenshots and opted-in temporary images (Review, Keep, Cleanup) and the fields returned by Smart Mode (purpose, category, cleanup priority, etc.) are advisory outputs of rules and models. They do not constitute legal, financial, medical, tax, business, or professional advice. We do not warrant that:
- The classification matches your actual intent for any given screenshot.
- A "Cleanup" suggestion for a screenshot or temporary image is appropriate in your specific context.
- Model-inferred fields such as source app, receipt details, or visual family are accurate.
Any decision you make based on the app's output (including whether to delete or keep a screenshot or temporary image) is solely your responsibility.
10.3 Deletion decisions and photo management are your responsibility
The app never deletes any photo automatically. Every deletion requires your explicit confirmation in the app and is then confirmed again by the iOS Photos system. We are not responsible for:
- Loss of photos resulting from your confirmed deletion (the "Recently Deleted" retention window is determined by Apple).
- Data loss caused by failure to back up, failure to sync to iCloud Photos, or failure to export originals.
- Data loss caused by anomalies in the system photo library, iOS upgrades, or device failures.
We recommend verifying your iCloud Photos backup status before performing bulk cleanup.
10.4 Third-party services
The app relies on the following third-party services. Their availability, terms, and data-handling practices are outside our control:
- Apple: App distribution, in-app purchases (subscriptions and credit packs), App Attest device verification, and the iOS Photos system are provided by Apple under Apple's own terms and privacy policy. Refunds, Family Sharing, and subscription management are handled exclusively by Apple.
- Third-party AI inference infrastructure (Smart Mode): Smart Mode may rely on third-party AI inference and cloud infrastructure. Its availability, terms, network conditions, or force majeure events may affect Smart Mode. If Smart Mode is temporarily unavailable, you can still use Default Mode to organize screenshots and opted-in temporary images on device.
10.5 Subscriptions and Credits
- SnapOut Pro subscription: available as monthly or yearly auto-renewable subscriptions. Each subscription period includes 400 credits. 1 credit processes 1 image with SnapOut AI.
- credit packs: one-time consumable in-app purchases that add the stated number of Credits. They do not auto-renew, can be used without a subscription, and can also be used alongside a Pro subscription.
- Deduction order: if both subscription credits and credit-pack balance are available, the service uses subscription credits first because they reset by period, then uses purchased credit-pack balance.
- Cancellation and refunds: subscriptions can be canceled in iOS Settings or App Store subscription management. Purchases, renewals, refunds, Family Sharing, and displayed pricing are handled by Apple and governed by Apple's App Store terms.
- Price and benefit changes: we may change future subscription prices, credit amounts, or service benefits. Completed purchases will not lose the benefits already granted for the current period because of a later price change. When Apple requires user consent, Apple will present and handle that consent flow.
10.6 Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for:
- Indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the app.
- Data loss, lost profits, business interruption, or loss of goodwill.
- Losses caused by third-party service changes or force majeure (including but not limited to natural disasters, network outages, government action, or regulatory changes).
Whether under contract, tort, or any other legal theory, our cumulative liability to you shall not exceed the subscription fees you have actually paid for the app in the preceding 12 months (if any).
Nothing in this section limits Apple's liability under Apple's standard EULA, and nothing herein waives any non-waivable rights you may have under mandatory consumer-protection laws in your jurisdiction (including, where applicable, rights under the EU GDPR, the UK Consumer Rights Act, California consumer protection statutes, or China's Personal Information Protection Law).
10.7 Intellectual property
- You retain ownership of your screenshots, temporary images, and any content you provide to the app. The app processes such content only within the scope described in Section 2 and releases it immediately afterwards. We obtain no ownership or derivative usage rights.
- The app's code, UI design, copy, and trademarks ("SnapOut" / "截了") belong to the developer and are protected by applicable law.
10.8 Changes, suspension, and termination
We reserve the following rights, exercisable without prior individual notice but announced via app updates or this page:
- Change, upgrade, or discontinue specific AI inference infrastructure, model versions, or routing strategies used by Smart Mode.
- Temporarily suspend the service for maintenance, upgrades, security incidents, or regulatory requirements.
- Restrict or terminate access for a specific device_id upon detection of abuse, fraud, or violation of these terms; subscription and credit pack refunds remain governed by Apple's policy.
- Discontinue the service entirely. If we do so, we will provide at least 30 days' notice in the app and explain how the remaining subscription period will be handled (pro-rata refunds, if any, processed by Apple).
10.9 Governing law and dispute resolution
These terms are governed by the laws of the People's Republic of China (excluding Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan). Any dispute arising from this service should first be resolved through good-faith negotiation; if negotiation fails, the dispute shall be submitted to the people's court with jurisdiction at the developer's location. Nothing in this section limits any rights you may have under Apple's App Store terms or under mandatory consumer-protection laws in your jurisdiction.
10.10 Severability
If any provision of these terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
